From Local Catalog to Global Cart. How BLU Mastered Product Data Chaos To Fuel Scalable E-Commerce Expansion.

Pimcore (PIM) as a Product Data Core + E-commerce Backend

Quick facts

Blu

Distributor Of Bathroom Fittings And Interior Fittings
Technology
Pimcore, API, SQL

CLIENT

Blu is one of the largest distributors of bathroom fittings in Poland, with an extensive network of stationary showrooms. Previously, customers could see tiles, bathroom furniture, shower enclosures and accessories, but the online offer included only 20-30% of the products. The problem was the discrepancy and chaos of data – the products came from many sources: Excels, paper catalogs, SQL databases and API manufacturers.

We are currently working with Blu on the implementation of an e-commerce backend and a PIM system based on Pimcore.

BUSINESS ANALYSIS

Key Challenges & Objectives

Challenges Before Starting A Project

  • Thousands of products, dozens of data sources, different formats and dictionaries.

  • The online offer included only 20-30% of the assortment.

  • No central PIM system – time-consuming, manual operations in Excel.

  • Delays in the release of new products and the risk of errors in data.

Project Objectives

  • Full digitization and consolidation of fragmented product data.

  • Total Catalog Coverage.

  • Accelerated Time-to-Market.

  • Data Integrity, Expansion Readiness

Solution

Pimcore As A Product Command Center

Data Modeling

  • Architecture: Defined category structures and product relationships.

  • Granularity: Specific attribute sets for each category (tiles, enclosures, furniture).

  • Logic: Strategic mapping of manufacturers and product series.

Advanced Data Import

  • Data retrieval from multiple sources (CSV, Excel, API, SQL).

  • Mapping categories and attributes from source files to Pimcore frameworks.

  • Mapping dictionaries (colors, dimensions, units) – e.g. "dark gray" → "gray".

  • Mapping contextual attributes to categories (e.g. abrasion class for tiles, glass thickness for cabins).

  • Data transformations: unit conversions, numeric value formatting.

Cyclical And Order Of Imports

  • Automation: Scheduled synchronization cycles (e.g., daily).

  • Sequencing: Strict import queuing—categories and dictionaries first, then products.

  • Validation: Automated integrity checks for completeness and accuracy before publication.

BENEFITS:

  • Unified management of thousands of products from fragmented sources.
  • Significant reduction in manual errors and administrative workload.
  • Accelerated product publication and full e-commerce readiness.
