An electronic payment system that lets customers pay their premium by BLIK, card or instant bank transfer — during a meeting with their agent, in the customer portal, or with a single click from a payment reminder.
About the client
The client operates through two companies, one in life and one in general insurance. It sells mainly through agents, and customers can also manage their policies via an online portal.
Following a merger of the group’s companies, its life business is now one of the largest life insurers in Poland.
In life insurance, an application only becomes a policy once the first premium has been received. Yet customers were still paying by standard bank transfer or in cash to their agent, and every day spent waiting for a transfer to clear dragged out the whole process.
Standard bank transfersWaiting for payments to arrive held up the issuing of policies.
Manual payment allocationThe bank sent payments in a single bulk file, which then had to be matched to individual policies by hand.
Reminders with no payment linkText reminders about upcoming payments gave customers no way to pay in a single click.
Two companies, one paymentPayments for life and property policies have to reach each company separately, while preserving insurance confidentiality.
Late premiums, misallocated payments and complaints were all adding to costs, and agents lacked the kind of modern tool their competitors were already offering.
Without change, every sale would have ended with an application rather than a paid-for policy.
FasterThe first premium paid during the meeting with the agent.
On timeRegular premiums paid when they fall due.
ModernOnline payments as a selling point of the agent's toolkit.
SecureCard data kept out of the insurer's systems, and settlements that comply with insurance confidentiality rules.
The agent raises the application and, together with the customer, chooses how to pay: BLIK, card, instant transfer or recurring payments.
The customer pays straight away, or via a link sent by text or email. The same link also appears in the customer portal, the agent portal, and in payment reminders and overdue notices.
Subsequent premiums are collected from the card automatically. Card details are handled by the payment provider, and the insurer stores only a token.
Customers can pay for several policies across both companies in a single transaction, and the system splits the payment between the right companies and policies while preserving insurance confidentiality. Settlement follows by the next day at the latest.
Staff can see the status of every payment in real time, download daily reports and process refunds, while the system guards against duplicate payments.
The system was rolled out in stages, one channel at a time:
The system proved so versatile that, once the group’s companies merged, it was chosen as the payment system for the entire organisation.
Our work didn’t stop at go-live. From the first release to this day, we’ve been responsible for maintaining and developing the system.
Throughout the project, Omega Code worked to high standards, delivered on schedule and gave us professional support at every stage. The system we built together meets every requirement our organisation set, and it is now held up to other teams across the company as a model of how software should be built and developed.
Their expertise, well-organised way of working and command of modern technologies and industry best practice are what define Omega Code — and why I can recommend them as a partner you can trust.
